Social Networks
This is a list of my social networks / profiles on other sites. I realise this makes spying / stalking me a simpler task - but privacy is so 20th century… These are in descending order of activity.
- Spotify
- Revolutionary music service. I have no hesitation in recommending their
premium service. Why even attempt to ‘own’ music when you are only really licensing it anyway. This way you can listen to almost anything you want and can spend hours nostalging over old stuff or discovering new artists. Sound quality isn’t bad either.
- Google Maps Views
- I seem to have succumb to doing Google’s bidding and have been helping
them add photospheres to Google Maps of reasonably scenic places on my travels. The emails you get saying how many thousands of people have viewed your photos only serve to encourage more embarrassing rotating photography. Still - it appeals to me as I’ve been taking these ‘spins’ for years.
- LinkedIn
- Essential tool for the working day.
- Google Plus
- Slow progress for Google with this - but a different feel / vision from
Facebook. I had high hopes for Circles - as I thought this was the main issue with Facebook - but unfortunately it is just too much effort to try and emulate real world social networks. It’s also too risky in my view - trying to keep some things private between different groups is tricky to manage beyond a very small set - e.g. family / friends / public.
- YouTube
- Youtube has largely replaced TV in the last year or two. I suspect this
may continue as a trend. The fantastic content from some very dedicated vlogers is partly what has inspired me to at least make some attempt to contribute to the Internet - rather than being a complete leach. Subbable would probably be more appreciated though!
- twitter
- Tricky one - I got my first account in 2007 - before the hype - but I’ve
never really been comfortable with it. Not sure why. Needs a ‘cerebellum’ - a way to filter the noise and deliver you meaningful content out of the noise. I am reluctant to add to the noise and prefer to keep my nonsense slightly off the radar.
- Facebook
- Again - joined relatively early (October 2006) when part of ucla.edu -
again - never really liked the quasi privacy of it - now mostly feel guilty that people will think I’m ignoring them by not contributing. Should probably get over myself and say Hi - but now-a-days not that many people that I know are posting that much anyway. Leave it to the youths?
