Lingo

Language picked up along the way

Bassline

Genre of music, derived from UK Garage, heard continually on the top deck of buses in Manchester. I always wondered what the hell the 'kidz' were listening to and worried that I was really getting old because I had no concept of any of their tunes. The DJ Q Essential Mix from 07/06/08 provides an overview for the otherwise clueless - like me.

All Roads Lead To Rome

Used by Jim Olsen to describe the fact that all methods of calculating a companies valuation, either through Abnormal Earnings Growth, Net Present Value or any other method you happen to pull out of your corporate financial weapon repository should yield the same answer. Good Luck With That!

Governing Thought

A governing thought is critical for all MBA presentations, especially when in the presence of Manchester Business School's marketing guru Stephan Henneberg.

Slide headers should be messages that when grouped together form your governing thought. The first 3 layers of your Minto Pyramid should also form your governing thought.

Inner Barbara

To attain clarity in structuring your thoughts one should look to one's inner Barbara for guidance. Barbara Minto, author of The Minto Pyramid, will always show you the way. Seek the right pyramid and you will be ok. If in doubt - always ask - 'What is your question?', 'What Steps or Reasons do you need to answer it?' and 'What is my governing thought?'. You should also have a damn good idea about your 'Subject', 'Situation', 'Complication'... otherwise where the hell are you!? Unstructured hell - that's where.

Spazmonaut

A level of idiocy that reaches new heights.

Broughten

Valley Girlification of the past tense of bring. As in the exchange between:

Biatch 1: 'Bring it on, biatch!'
Biatch 2: 'Oh, It has soo been broughten'

Trough of Despair

The point from which everything gets better.

EBITDA

Officially stands for 'Earnings Before Interest, Tax, Depreciation and Amortisation', said in a Yorkshire accent conjures up images of accountants in flat caps and tweed.

Die in a ditch

What not to do when arguing a point.

If you ask me, its just a bunch of rocks and a big hole

Origin: Phrase used by an American tourist upon getting out of his Winnebago to look at the Grand Canyon shortly before sunset. I had just spent about half an hour sitting by the edge staring in wonder having just hiked back up.
